She is truly passionate about pelvic health and its profound impact on various aspects of life. Her approach to physical therapy aligns with a holistic perspective, aiming to enhance not just physical well-being but overall health and vitality. Dr Laura Currens, PT, DPT, PCES

Owner, Pelvic Physical Therapist

Laura is the owner and founder of Dynamic Flow Physical Therapy. She is passionate in helping women get back to feeling like themselves after having a baby, birth injuries, or overall struggling with pelvic pain conditions, and she also treats men. She loves treating the abdomen and feels it can be a huge link to pain from low back pain, mid back pain, GI issues, and pelvic pain. She loves looking at the body as a “whole” and how everything can be connected causing the limitations or struggles. She has worked with high level athletes to everyday individuals and loves to really find the driver of symptoms and educate on self management techniques to help patients return to full function quickly and with confidence.

She has taken dozens of pelvic floor, orthopedic, visceral, and pregnancy/ postpartum continuing education courses. She is always looking to grow and learn, to continue to offer the best treatments for her clients.

She is a proud mom of two girls, their 100+ pound lab mix, and two cats! She loves anything outdoors, surfing, hiking, backpacking, and staying active.

How I Became a Pelvic Health Therapist

After giving birth to my first child, I had horrible tailbone pain, the feeling like my insides were falling out, and other pelvic floor symptoms.  Running, jumping, and sitting were all painful and I started noticing episodes of stress incontinence.

I couldn’t sit without terrible pain which made breastfeeding my baby difficult, my workouts were limited, and I couldn't go down a slide with my child due to the pressure at my tailbone.  I felt lost and had no idea what was wrong with me.

At this time I decided I needed to get help and learn everything I could to get myself back to being active and feeling like myself again.  This is when I started my journey of becoming a pelvic floor therapist, transitioning away from my love of sport and orthopedic physical therapy.

I started taking as many courses as I could to grow my knowledge. I found a pelvic physical therapist who could help me with manual techniques to help relax tight muscles, started focusing on my posture and correcting bad habits, and slowly added in more exercises to build towards her goal of getting back to impact exercises. I realized my pelvic floor symptoms started a decade earlier when she had a hard fall snowboarding, I just wasn’t aware that urinary urgency and frequency were not normal, and the nagging SI and hip pain was pelvic floor related. I thought I had a “small bladder”. These symptoms were made worse after childbirth but had been “brewing” for years.

Changing habits can be slow and take time but I am so happy to be back to 100% and had a significantly easier recovery after my second baby.  I contribute this to my improved knowledge and good foundation that I worked hard to build.
